NORMAN H.A. SCOTT Peacefully, on Friday, May 19, 2000 at Deer Lodge Centre, Norman Hugh Alexander Scott, husband of the late Elsie R. Scott, quietly passed away in his sleep at the age of 85. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife of 59 years, Elsie; sister Dorothy of Vancouver; and his parents Gerald and Jean Scott. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Carol (John) Gillis, Heather (Dale) Bradshaw, Geraldine (Barry) Field, and Maureen (Dave) Gemmell of Winnipeg; and his sons, Jim (Frona) of Brentwood Bay, B.C. and Grant (Judy-Lynne) of Three Hills, Alta. Also, he was very proud of his 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren enjoying their many visits, stories and accomplishments. Norm was born on January 29, 1915 in Winnipeg, attended Cecil Rhodes and Daniel McIntyre schools, was a member of the Ritzys hockey team and Mom and Dad spent many summers at LacLu with their friends. He married Elsie Ruth Tyler on June 3, 1939 at St. Thomas Anglican Church and they raised their family in Winnipeg. He joined the RCAF during the Second World War (1940-1946) and became a Pilot Officer, Navigator with Ferry Command. He served in England, France, Italy, North Africa and the Bahamas. Following release from the RCAF, he returned to the CP Express; worked with the Government of Manitoba, Highways Department, and in his retirement years served as Chairman of the License Suspension and Appeal Board for the province. During this time he held various positions in MGEA and and later serving as President of MGREA. He was an active supporter of the New Democratic Party in the Burrows constituency for many years. Norm was a 49 year member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch No. 2, serving as President in 1961-1962. He was a member of the North Centennial Seniors and enjoyed the comradeship and many trips they offered. In accordance with Normans wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held on Tuesday, May 23, at 7:00 p.m. Thomson Funeral Chapel, 669 Broadway. Honorary pallbearers will be all members of Weston/Brooklands Legion, Branch No. 2. A private family interment will be held. The family would like to thank Deer Lodge Centre, T5, for helping Dad accept Deer Lodge as his new home over the last year and a half. We know you enjoyed his sense of humour, dry wit and those "winks", and he appreciated your extra attention and more recently, your visits to T3! Thanks to the nursing staff on T3 for their constant concerns. Our special thanks to all of you for Dads care and your boundless compassion. Donations may be made in memory of Norman to Deer Lodge Centre or Canadian Diabetes, or the charity of ones choice. It broke our hearts to lose you But you did not go alone, For part of us went with you The day God called you home. Though your smile is gone forever, And your hand we cannot touch, We will never lose the memory Of one we loved so much. Thanks for the loving years you gave us, The happy times we share. We all pray that when you left us, You knew how much we cared Our family chain is broken And nothing seems the same, But as God calls us one by one, The chain will be linked again. Mom and Dad, We love you. Kerrs Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements, 943-6688.
