VICTOR LABONGO February 12, 1959 - May 26, 2000 After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Victor died peacefully at St. Boniface Hospital on Friday, May 26 with his loving wife, Florence, at his side. Victor was born in Gulu, Uganda. He completed his primary schooling in Uganda, received his Bachelor of Science degree at Makerere University, Uganda and travelled to London for his Masters degree in Genetics in 1993. Victor left Uganda and arrived in Winnipeg with his wife and five children on September 23, 1998. Although he was passionate for his home country, circumstances made it difficult for him to remain there and he welcomed the opportunity to come and live in Canada. During his brief time in Winnipeg Victor touched the lives of many. His gentle, wise presence and compassion for the well being of others will remain with those fortunate to have known him. With his warm, radiant smile, he made an impact on everyone he met. He leaves his wife, Florence, and his children, Vincent, Lucy, Susan, Philip and Nora. Many family members from abroad will miss him dearly also. The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at St. Boniface for their tender care, the staff at Victor Mager School and friends who kindly helped during this difficult time. A funeral service for Victor, a faithful servant of God, will be held on Tuesday, May 30 at 4:30 p.m. at St. Timothys Parish, 135 John Forsyth, St. Vital. Arrangements in care of Kerrs Funeral Home. A private burial will take place later.
