BERNARDINE FIGSBY (nee COYLE) Peacefully on July 1, 2000, Bernardine Figsby, wife of the late William Figsby passed away at the Fort Garry Personal Care Home at the age of 87 years. Born November 16, 1912, in Winnipeg on York Street, daughter of Bernardine (Stuke) and James D. Coyle, prominent well-driller of the time. She spent her youth between points in Minnesota and Winnipeg, finally attending St. Marys Academy. Her young adult years were at Standard Knitting, Eatons and enjoying Ken Figsbys company. They were married November 12, 1938 at St. Edwards and soon transferred to Toronto with the C.P.R. While there, "Berne" volunteered during the war years, later working and becoming an LPN and worked for some time in a private hospital; then at Eatons until the passing of Ken on May 10, 1975. Returning to Winnipeg, she worked at the Bay parkade until she retired, to look after her granddaughter Meghan and then grandson Paul. As with most grandmothers, she dearly loved her grandchildren, enjoyed sewing, cooking - especially the dainties - , "Road to Avonlea" with her dear friend "Moe", and keeping in touch with many friends and relations in Toronto and Minnesota. Left to cherish her memory are her son Daniel (Mary) grandchildren, Meghan and Paul Figsby; brothers, James and Donald Coyle; sister Rosella Rogers; brothers-in-law, Harry (June) Figsby, Al Hammond; nephews, Tom (Vicki) Rogers and family, Roy (Edie) Hammond and family and Al Hammond, Michael Figsby; niece Joanne (Ken) Basson and family; and relations in Minnesota. Many thanks and blessing to the staff of Fort Garry Care Centre for their kindness and caring during her last year, as well as the home care attendants who helped for the past several years. Thank you for being "You". Pallbearers will be Messers. Robert Dick, Michael Figsby, Robert Fleury, Christopher Gillies, Frank Michaelis and Howard Squirk. Prayers will be said in the Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, on Wednesday, July 5 at 7:00 p.m. (tonight). Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Rosary Church, 610 River Ave., on Thursday, July 6 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Sam Argenziano the celebrant. Songs will be sung by Paul, Meghan and Dan Figsby. Interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. A reception will take place following the interment in the Reception Room of Thomson Funeral Chapels.
