Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMYRTLE VICTORIA SUTHERLAND (nee ROOT) 1901-2000 Peacefully, on Monday, August 28, 2000 at the Betel Home, Selkirk, Myrtle V. Sutherland passed away at the age of 99 years. Myrtle was born in Emerson, MB, on May 5, 1901, daughter of the late Salem R. and Eva Eleanor Root. Myrtle was a school teacher and taught in various districts including Grand Marais, Amaranth, Teulon and Clandeboye. She met Arthur Hamlyn Sutherland at Clandeboye and were married on October 4, 1930. They resided in Winnipeg for several years and then moved to the family farm in Clandeboye where they resided until Arthurs demise in 1985. In the fall of 1985 Myrtle moved to the Rotary Manor in Selkirk and lived there until moving to the Betel Home in 1994. Myrtle was a dedicated member of St. Georges Anglican Church, Wakefield and the A.C.W. She had served as organist for 30 years and generously donated the land for the recent expansion of the cemetery. Myrtle was a gentle, caring and loving little lady who would harm no one. She had a lot of patience and was a good listener to anyone. She was a wonderful aunt, great aunt and friend. Myrtle leaves surviving her sister Dorothy Cowton of Winnipeg; sister-in-law Freda Sutherland of Selkirk and many nieces, nephews and friends. Besides her husband she was predeceased by her sister Emily Huxley in 1956 and her brother Laverne Root in 1993. An evening prayer service will be said on Wednesday, (tonight) August 30 at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. A Celebration of her life with Holy Eucharist will be held on Thursday, August 31 at 10:30 a.m. in the St. Georges Wakefield Church with Rev. Glenda Drew officiating. Interment in the Parish Cemetery. Her pallbearers will be Ron, Dave, Tim and Brian Sutherland, Rodney Petersen and Jason Nutbean. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Betel Home, Dr. Dittberner, Bev Strick and Frank and Nettie Bednar for all the wonderful care and help over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Myrtles memory to the St. Georges Wakefield Cemetery Fund, in care of Donna Sutherland, Box 174, Petersfield, MB, R0C 2L0.
