FREDERICK EDWIN PRENTICE Born in Romford, Essex on March 3, 1920 and died peacefully in Pinawa Hospital on November 12, 2000. Fred is survived by his daughter Carol (Brian) Cooper; son Brian (Carol) grandson Dean Cooper and granddaughter Sherryll (Rick) Toffan; great grandchildren, Taylor and Turner Toffan and brother Len (Iris) and sister Doris (Bill) of England. He was predeceased by his wife Joan in 1990. Dad served in the R.A.F. in numerous locations during the war. The family lived in Baltimore, Montreal and Bristol, England before settling down in Winnipeg in Spring, 1951. Dad worked at Bristol Aero, Standard Aero and as volunteer Squadron Leader, Red River Squadron Air Cadets. He joined the Department of National Defence in 1953 where he served for 26 years as a technical inspector at No. 10 TSU. Fred and Joanie were avid ballroom dancers, travelled extensively and embraced life with boundless enthusiasm. They spent 30 happy years at their Pinawa Bay cottage before moving to Pinawa in 1988. Dad was president of the Lions Club prior to a serious car accident in 1992. He was a member of the 50+ Club and Pinawa Christian Fellowship and courageously maintained his love of life despite many hard fought battles. A special thank you to his homemakers, Marge Ehler, Lizette Vic and Colleen Vnuk and special friends, Eva and John Stermscheg and Dot Willacy for their devotion in making Freds last years such happy and productive ones. A sincere thanks also to Pinawa Hospital staff for their compassionate care. At Dads request, his body has been donated to the University of Manitoba Medical Research. A memorial service and reception to celebrate Dads life will be held by Pinawa Christian Fellowship at F.W. Gilbert Elementary School, Pinawa (on McDiarmid left off Vanier) on Saturday, November 18 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation.
