SOL GERB It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Sol Gerb, aged 79, on January 4, 2001, with his wife by his side. Sol will be sadly missed by Anne, his wife of 40 years; his son Jack and daughter-in-law Anita of Toronto; his daughter Darlene "Flynn" and son-in-law Michael; and his granddaughter Halley. Sol is survived by his sisters, Fanny Mock, Shirley Baron, and Marsha Garfinkel; sisters-in-law, Laurice Gerb, Theresa Maryk (Victor) brother-in-law Wally Muzylowski (Sheila) numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Sol was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Dora Gerb; brother Max; sister Clara Katz; two nephews; and four brothers-in-law. Born in Poland, Sol immigrated to Winnipeg in 1937. He was a businessman at heart and worked in the fur and garment industry most of his life. He co-founded Gerb Enterprises in 1974, where he spent almost every day until his retirement in 1984. Sols first priority was taking care of his family. His hard work and dedication allowed his wife and children every opportunity to fulfill their dreams and enjoy a comfortable life. Upon retirement, Sol enjoyed time with his wife. They were most often together, travelling, shopping, and visiting. He became a member of Chevra Mishnayes Synagogue where he met with his friends for the morning minyan, and the Monash Legion where he played cards Friday afternoons. Sol was full of life, loved a good kibbitz and a good laugh. He took great pleasure in watching his family enjoy themselves. His granddaughter Halley was his pride and joy. He touched many people in his life without even realizing it, and he will be sadly missed. He wanted to live until he died. He did. Funeral services were held at the BNay Abraham Synagogue on January 8, with interment at the BNay Abraham Cemetery. Pallbearers were Al Katz, Harv Mock, Jack Solomon, Sid Ritter, Bobby Goldberg, and Bruce Kimelman. The Monash Legion provided an Honour Guard.
