VERNA KUZYK (nee CHIUPKA) Peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2001, at the Grace General Hospital, while listening to Ukrainian Christmas carols, Verna went to join her parents. Verna leaves to cherish her memory her husband Larry, her only daughter Laurie and her fiance Perry Hunstad who Verna thought of as her son, her sister Marian Young (Gerry), nephew Scott, godchild Shannon, great-nephew Tyler, her sister Chris Frith (Doug), niece Dana and nephew Michael. Verna also had family on her husbands side who she always called brothers and sisters, never in-laws. She was predeceased by her father Michael Chiupka in 1974 and her mother Anne Chiupka in 1987. She was born January 16, 1936, in Dauphin, Man. Verna worked with MTS in Dauphin where she met her husband, and they married in 1958. Her daughter was born in 1961, and Verna became a stay-at-home to look after her family. They moved to Winnipeg in 1965. In accordance with Vernas wishes, cremation and a private family service have taken place. Our family wishes to extend many thanks to Fr. Isidore Dziadyk, the Grace Hospital Palliative Care nurses who took great care of Verna and our family, to Dr. Mulder who was wonderful, and to Dr. Schellenberg for his years of care. As an expression of sympathy, anyone wishing to honour Vernas memory may do so by making a donation to the CancerCare of Manitoba Foundation, 100 Olivia St., Winnipeg, Man., R3E 0V9, Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, Man., R3B 2H8, Lupus Society of Manitoba, 105 - 386 Broadway, Winnipeg, Man., R3C 3R6, or The Salvation Army Memorial Fund, 740 - 500 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, Man., R3C 3X1.
