J. STUART MATHESON Peacefully on Friday, 12 January 2001, at the age of 79 years, Stuart passed away at the St. Boniface Hospital. The dearly loved husband of the late Joan (Hewlett) who predeceased him in 1982. He was the beloved father of Linda and Gwen (Rick) and Grandpa extraordinaire of Amy, William, and Bonnie. He is also survived by his brother, Howard of Calgary and family. Stuart was born and raised in Winnipeg. He joined the R.C.A.F. two days after war was declared. He served with distinction in the 4003 medical unit until the end of the Second World War then transferred to the Reserves until 1959. After selling his business, Stuarts Self Serve, he became a representative of Investors Group, retiring in 1995. Sports played a great part in his life winning speed skating medals as a youth, volunteering at the 1999 Pan Am Games, and following all sports on TV. Dad was a 50-year member of the Masons (Fort Garry Lodge #130), a member of the Nomads Trailer Group, the Clan Matheson Society, and an elder of Knox United Church. The family would like to thank Drs. W. Van Horne and H. Smith, and the doctors, nurses and staff on 5A at St. Boniface Hospital. A special thanks to Rev. Dr. Bruce Bailey and staff of Knox for their pastoral care. In addition wed like to thank Dads kind friends and his home care workers. Internment has taken place. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, January 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Chapel, 669 Broadway.
