ELIZABETH GLEN SPARLING It is with sadness that Heather McLaren, Don, Jennifer and Scott announce the passing of her beloved aunt, Elizabeth Glen Sparling, aged 86 , on January 16, 2001 at the Grace General Hospital Glen was born on September 18, 1914 in Toronto, ON. She and her family moved throughout Western Canada as her father, H.H. Sparling, rose in the ranks of the C.N.R. administration. She attended schools in Winnipeg, graduating from Kelvin High School. Throughout the war years, she held various positions, eventually working at the Montreal Childrens Hospital for 30 years - years she remembered vividly. She retired and moved back to Winnipeg where she spent several years as secretary to the architecture faculty at the University of Manitoba. Glen was devoted to opera, theatre and classical music. From an early age, she kept careful records of concerts, operas, social events and vacations in minute detail in a wonderful collection of scrapbooks which have provided her and her friends much enjoyment. They are a wonderful record of a life well lived. She was predeceased by her parents, Charlotte (Lottie) Sparling and Howard Hartman Sparling; and her younger sister Betty. Cremation has taken place. A private family interment of ashes will take place at a later time. A gathering of friends in celebration of Glens life will be held in the Chapel area, main floor of Lions Manor, 320 Sherbrook St., Saturday, January 20 at 3:00 p.m. Special thanks to the many caring members of the Lions Manor staff who enriched these last several months of Glens life. She felt blessed. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
