ETHEL DUNDAS SMITH Passed away peacefully at Central Park Lodge, 440 Edmonton Street, after a lengthy illness. She was born on July 16, 1907 in Arnaud, Man., the third child of Lawrence and Marianne Dundas Smith. Ethel (or "Toots" as she was known to the family) grew up in Winnipeg, receiving her education at Kelvin High School and later graduating from the University of Manitoba. While attending University, she began working for the T. Eaton Company, working as the Chief Librarian at the lending library, and after it was closed down, managing the stationery department, until she retired in 1972. Ethel was an avid curler and golfer, and was also actively involved raising American Saddlebred horses, winning numerous ribbons at the local horse shows. She especially loved her summers at Winnipeg Beach, moving to the family cottage first thing every spring and waiting until the last moment each fall to move back to Winnipeg. She was a member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, where she served as a vestry member. Predeceased by her parents; her sister Helen Murphy; her brother, The. Rev. William Dundas Smith and two nieces, Rosemary Poole and Theodora Smith. She is survived by her nephew, Lawrence Dundas Smith of Killarney, Man.; two great-nieces and two great-nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Klinic and Central Park Lodge for all the care and compassion shown to Ethel over the past fifteen years. Donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society or to a charity of ones choice. Interment will take place at St. Johns Cathedral Cemetery on February 5. Killarney-Boissevain Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
