OZZIE NASBERG With overwhelming sadness, we announce the tragic and unexpected passing of Ozzie Nasberg on February 26, 2001 at the age of 81. He is survived by his loving wife Mollie; his children, Joyce Shuster, Larry (Simmie) Nasberg, Sharon (Barry) Weinstein, and his grandchildren, Jodi, Marci, Lissie, Benji, Marshall and Courtney, and many nieces and nephews. Ozzie was born in Russia in 1919 and immigrated to Winnipeg at the age of nine. Years later, after distinguished service in the precision squad of the Canadian Air Force, Ozzies creative talent, personality, and commitment led him to success as a commercial real estate developer, resulting in his designation as an Honorary Kentucky Colonel. Ozzie supported many charitable causes and felt privileged to be recognized as one of the Rebuilders of Jerusalem and to serve on the Board of Governors of the Sharon Home. Ozzie, early on, was an accomplished artist and later found pleasure in photography. Ever humble about his many achievements, to Ozzie, his family was his greatest joy, and his reputation, his greatest asset. A man of his word, always striving to do what was right, no matter the cost, Ozzie treated everyone with dignity and respect. Ozzies class and gifted sense of humour endeared him to all. His warm smile melted your heart. Truly a rare individual, who, by his example, instilled the highest values in his family. How difficult it will be to ever overcome the painful loss of this wonderful man, one so dear to us, who has been taken from us far too soon. Can there ever be words to adequately describe Ozzie and how we feel about him? Can anything we say ever be enough? Will our flowing tears and broken hearts ever bring him back to share the love, the laughter, or the respect and admiration that he brought to his family, his friends and all those whose lives he touched? Will it ever be possible to believe he is not with us, there to support us when we need his help, to guide us when we need his wisdom, to love us when we need his comfort, to hug us when we need his touch, to smile at us when we need his warmth, and to provide his humour when we need uplifting? Now, as in life, we know that whenever we need him, he will always be there in each of us. We love you. Funeral services were held on February 28, warmly and compassionately officiated by Rabbi Green and Rabbi Berkal. Pallbearers were Barry Weinstein, Mark Rosenfield, Stephen Rosenfield, Sheldon Sturrey, Neil Kravetsky, and Michael Werier. Honorary pallbearers were Bill Shell, Justice Nathan Nurgitz, Wally Guberman, Meyer "Keppy" Steiman, Jack Gurevitch, Nate Gutkin, Phil Maltz and Mort Shuster. If friends so desire, donations may be made to the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, or the charity of your choice.
