Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKAROL GONTAREWICZ Peacefully on May 13, 2001, Karol, aged 100 years, passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital. He is survived by his three children in Poland, Zenon, Irena and Edward (Danuta) 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Karol was predeceased by his wife of 77 years, Honorata, who passed away on April 11, 2001 and by his daughter Janina in 1989. During the Second World War, Karol was captured by the Soviet Army and taken to Siberia. There he joined the Polish Army with whom he fought in North Africa and in Italy at the battle of Monte Casino. After the war Karol settled in England and immigrated to Canada in the mid-fifties. He was joined by his wife in 1958. Prior to his retirement in 1965, Karol worked with Canadian Pacific Railway. Our grandfather was a deeply religious person. He was also a very generous individual who will be sadly missed by us all. Prayers will be said on Thursday, May 17, at 8:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, May 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave., with an Oblate Father officiating.
