Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEVA ISABELLA FIDLER April 21, 1937 - May 15, 2001 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother and nana, Eva, who passed away after a long courageous fight with cancer, on May 15, 2001 at Selkirk & District General Hospital. She will be sadly missed and forever remembered for her abundant love, kindness, generosity, compassion and understanding. Eva is survived by her husband Gene and two sons, Charlie (Lorraine), grandchildren, Adam and Amy; and John (Della). Eva took tremendous pride in her sons and supported them in all their sports, especially fishing at which she was an expert. She delighted in passing her skills on to them. Eva was a superb photographer and delighted many friends and relatives with her generous and expert coverage of their weddings and other special events. Her greatest joy was in her grandchildren who she thrilled at photographing as they developed from gorgeous babies into the wonderful children they now are. She also leaves to mourn her sister Joan (Alex Beveridge) and many nieces and their families as well as many, many friends. Eva was born in Saskatoon, and moved early in life with her family to Winnipeg where she attended school and later joined Canadian National Railway where she met Gene. They married and lived in Selkirk, happily raising their sons. Eva was a housewife and mother, and later worked in the family business, and then joyfully babysat her grandchildren till stricken ill. Her courage and determination are an inspiration to us and everyone who knew her. We would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Health Sciences Centre. Special thanks to Dr. M.I. Hussain and the wonderful surgical/medical nursing staff at the SDGH for their skills and superb care which provided Eva with several extra years of happiness and quality life to enjoy her family and friends. Their overwhelming support and encouragement for Eva and the family over the past seven months was very much appreciated. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 18 at 1:30 p.m. at the Knox Presbyterian Church, Maclean Avenue at Eveline Street, Selkirk, with Rev. John Hogerwaard officiating. Cremation has taken place and service will terminate at the church, with a private family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations can be made to the Terry Fox Foundation which Eva so enthusiastically supported, to the Palliative Care Unit of SDGH, or to a charity of choice. In tears we saw you sinking, We watched you fade away; You suffered much in silence, You fought so hard to stay. You faced your task with courage, Your spirit did not bend, But still you kept on fighting Until the very end. God saw you getting tired, When a cure was not to be; So He put his arms around you, And whispered, "Come to Me". So when we saw you sleeping, So peaceful, free from pain, We could not wish you back, To suffer that again. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
