JOHN DOUGLAS WHITE Peacefully, with his wife at his side, Doug passed from this world into the next on December 10, 2001. When he discovered he had lost the battle to beat cancer he faced death with unimaginable courage, dignity, and faith in God. Doug is survived by his faithful wife Dora; their children, Kendra and Nathan, as well as three sons, Barry (fiancee Tara), Brian (girlfriend Helen), Vaughn (Cheryl) and grandchildren, Dustin, Quintana, Graeson; sisters, Lois Christie (Murray), Lyle Byram (Ray) and their families; and many in-laws, their families and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Jack and Isabel White; infant brother; and earlier this year, infant grandson Zachary. Doug began working at Whites Funeral Home at 18, and was left to carry on the family business in 1967 when his father died. He had a genuine love of people and a sincere desire to help and serve families in their greatest time of need. His sense of community and his loyalty to it was immense. Dougs other passions included flying, golfing, cooking, gardening, his dogs, and especially camping - he built his first trailer at age 18, and his wish was to spend his last summer in his trailer, which he did. In June Doug was diagnosed with colon cancer, had surgery and while in the hospital arranged home care at Clear Lake so he could recuperate in the trailer. Doug and Dora spent the entire summer in their trailer, returning in September for chemo, which was not successful in slowing the cancer. He spent his final days at home surrounded by his wife and family. He will be deeply missed. Funeral service was held in Neepawa on December 13 with Rev. Joe Ball officiating. If so desired, donations to Neepawa United Church Building Fund. "Death is not the loss in life. The greatest loss is the part of us that dies while we live." Norman Cousins. Whites Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
