MELVIN EMELIUS MICHAEL KABAN Mel passed way peacefully in Victoria, BC, on November 9, 2001 at the age of 58 years. He was born in Russell, MB and attended schools in Glen Elmo and Ruthenia School Districts. Following studies at Rossburn Collegiate he attended the Manitoba Institute of Technology. He then worked in the field of architectural drafting and consulted in mechanical engineering throughout his entire career. He worked in Winnipeg, Zambia, Edmonton, Vancouver and, finally, in Victoria. He took great pride in his designs and drawings as well as in his numerous construction projects. He took active part in community and cultural activities and had a passion for music and especially the violin. Mel is survived by his son Stefan, his mother Pauline Kaban, brothers Gene (Leona) and Allan (Doreen) Andrew and Mischa and sister Lesia (Dennis), Cal (Tanya), Cam (Carrie) and Nancy. He was predeceased by his father Michael in 1989. Cremation has taken place and a funeral service was held in Victoria, BC on November 16. The family and friends will remember Mel in prayer at the St. Josephs Ukrainian Catholic Church, 250 Jefferson Ave. on Sunday, December 23 at the 10:15 a.m. service.
