Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARGARET LILLIAN PETRAITES (MARGO) Peacefully, on December 15, 2001 at the Oakview Place, Margaret Petraites passed away at the age of 79 years. Margo was predeceased by her husband Alfred R. Petraites on March 21, 1980. Margo leaves to mourn her passing her dear friend Harry Cooke and his family, as well as Dan, Janet, Cameron and Kaleigh Bush. She was the daughter of the late Orville E. MacQuaid and Octavia E. MacQuaid who passed away October 18, 1968 and December 13, 1979 respectively. Margo lived all her life in Winnipeg. She was a very active 5 Pin Bowler - both as a competitor and at the Executive level of the Winnipeg Five Pin Bowling Association. She was their first Lady President in 48 years, presiding during the years 1975-1977. She had the honour of being President during the Associations 50th Year in 1977 - an honour of which she was deeply proud. She completed almost 31 years of service to the Association except for the time of her husbands long illness and subsequent death. As a competitor she represented Winnipeg Teams 11 times in Western Canada Championships; competed three times in the Canadian Championships as a bowler and three times as a coach. Margo was also a member of the first Canadian Ladies Team to compete against the Eastern finalist. She and her team won that first competition to become Canadian Champions and were entered into the Sports Hall of Fame in Manitoba. She was Winnipeg City Singles Champion in 1952-1953 and 1953-1954. She held high average of 254 in 1962-1963-1964. Margo also donated her time as a Y.B.C. coach for over 20 years at Village Inn Bowl until last year. She also spent many years with the Blind Bowlers when they first became active. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 19 at 10:00 a.m. in the Leatherdale Gardiner Funeral Chapel, 232 Kennedy St., with viewing one-half hour prior to service.
