ESTHER M. PENNER Peacefully on Monday, December 17, 2001, at the age of 86 years, Esther passed away at the Resthaven Nursing Home in Steinbach. She was predeceased by her first husband Jacob and by her parents Gerhard and Anna Buhler; one daughter Darlene Ann; two brothers, George and Henry; two sisters, Anna and Anganetta. She is survived by one sister Lydia Schmidt in Abbotsford, BC. She is also survived by one daughter Donna, living in White Rock, BC; two sons, Reginald (Marjorie), now living in Fort Collins, CO, James (Beverley), residing in Steinbach; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Esther was born in Herbert, SK, on November 29, 1915, and baptized on May 15, 1932. She was married to Jacob A. Penner in Herbert on May 13, 1934. They moved to Rosthern, SK, to operate a retail food store. In 1946 they moved to Steinbach where they bought a small grocery store. Mom was active in the business most years until her health began to fail. Besides helping out in the food store and selling dry goods, Mom devoted herself to her family and church. Her Sunday School students kept in touch with her over the years. The family is grateful to the doctors, nurses and caregivers who so skillfully cared for Mom in her later years at Woodhaven and finally at Resthaven in her last year. If friends so desire, a donation to the Association for Community Living or charity of your choice can be made in her honour. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 20 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cornerstone Bible Church, 1st Street and Reimer Avenue in Steinbach, with Pastor Bob Vogt and Rev. Wilf Unruh officiating. Interment will follow in the Steinbach Memorial Cemetery. Viewing will take place at Loewen Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Wednesday, December 19 between 7:00 and 8:00 p.m. and at the church prior to the service.
