Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPAUL HOLEWKA It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Paul Holewka, on January 2, 2002, at the age of 85 years, at the Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg, MB. Dad was born on July 26, 1916, in Winnipeg to Joseph and Anna Holewka (nee Truss), where he was raised, the only son of a family of five children. He was predeceased by an elder sister in early childhood, by his parents and most recently, by a younger sister Stephanie. Dad attended Isaac Newton Elementary and St. Johns Tech High School. We fondly remember his enthusiastic stories about his skills on the basketball courts and the talent he shared and enjoyed in the Glee Club during his school years. Dad served in the Canadian Army during the Second World War. After the war, he met, pursued and married the "girl of his dreams," Mary Storozuk on October 19, 1946. Dad valued and modeled strong work ethic and lifelong commitment to his family. Included in his employment history are positions with Atlas Brush Manufacturing, the Hotel Fort Garry in building maintenance, and at the CNR Shops as a machinist. From this latter position he retired in 1980. Dad and Mom have always put the children and grandchildren first. Daily child care for granddaughter Kathy during the early years following his retirement was a special treat, along with regular visits of the other grandchildren. His hobby as a meticulous woodworker also kept him busy and resulted in items specifically crafted for the family. Dad was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Josaphats Council, and the Institute Prosvita. He especially took pride in his life membership at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral. Dad leaves to mourn his passing, and will be remembered with love and respect by his wife Mary; daughter Jo Ann and husband Walter Skakun of Winnipeg; son Basil and wife Marlene Holewka of Morden; grandchildren, Wally and wife Karen Skakun, Danial and wife Stephanie Skakun, Kathy and husband Sam Romaniuk, all of Winnipeg, Jennifer Holewka and Michael Holewka of Toronto; his sisters, Gladys and Olga Holewka of Winnipeg, as well as extended family. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 4 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 5 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St., with Rev. M. Kouts officiating. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Wally Skakun, Karen Skakun, Dan Skakun, Michael Holewka, Jennifer Holewka and Sam Romaniuk. Honorary pallbearers will be Kathy Romaniuk and Stephanie Skakun. The family expresses its gratitude to the staff of Victoria General Hospital Emergency and Intensive Care Units for their kindness and care during Dads stay. Special thanks to Father Morand and Father McVay for their pastoral care. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
