HENRY KAUK Henry Kauk died peacefully on December 31, 2001, eleven days before his 96th birthday. Predeceased by Anne (Aasen), his wife of 55 years, he is survived by Wayne (Carol) of Ottawa and Joan (Doug Drennan) of Calgary and Marcia (Don Hicken) of Plano, Texas, daughter from a previous marriage. Ten grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild also survive him. The family wishes to thank the staff and volunteers of Deer Lodge Centre, Henrys home for the past six years. Henry was born in Elmwood, January 11, 1906. A great storyteller, he told of his personal experiences in daily life and events that changed the history of Winnipeg. He was part of events surrounding the Spanish influenza epidemic of 1918, the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919 and the Great Depression. He had been active in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer since the late 1930s. He served in the Canadian army in the Second World War. Henry was a printer for over 50 years, primarily with Eatons catalogue division and National Publishers. His hobbies were watch and clock repair and rehabilitation and growing the best vegetables in all of St. James. Funeral service will be held Friday, January 4, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 59 Academy Rd.
