Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryH.I. CORNE On December 27, 2001, H.I. Corne passed away peacefully at the age of 98 years old. Son of Bella and Isaac Corne, H.I. was born on August 12, 1902, in Shumsk, Russia. His family immigrated to Canada three months later. H.I. graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba in 1926 and was called to the Manitoba bar in 1927. A sole practitioner, his firm subsequently expanded to be known as Corne, Gillis, Corne and Corne. H.I. continued to practice with nephews, Alvin and Martin Corne until the age of 80. H.I. married Yhetta Finkleman (of blessed memory) on June 28, 1932. They were married for 58 years and had one son, Dr. Robert Corne. H.I. excelled in athletics, playing varsity basketball and soccer for the University of Manitoba. He established a scholarship in the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba. An active member of the Jewish Community, H.I. was one of the original members of the Menorah Society, U of Ms Jewish Student Association and later became president of Bnai Brith Lodge 650. H.I. was one of the founding members of Glendale Golf and Country Club. He will be missed by son Dr. Robert Corne and daughter-in-law Irene Corne; grandchildren, Lesley Corne and Jeff Wolman, Janet Corne, Maureen Corne and Avi Slama and Eric Corne; great-grandchildren, Ariel Slama, Yale Wolman, Serena Wolman, Liav Slama and Nieve Slama. He is predeceased by his brothers, David Corne, Dr. Norman Corne and sister Mollie Slusky. H.I. touched many individuals lives and had the unique ability to make each person feel special. He will always be remembered for his loving, kind and generous nature and for the positive way in which he lived life to the fullest. H.I. was a gentleman in the true sense of the word, he was a gentle man. Funeral services were held at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue on Friday, December 28, 2001.
