NORMAN CLAGUE CHRISTIE Q.C. November 1, 1917 - January 5, 2002 Peacefully on January 5, 2002, with his family by his side, following a battle with cancer and a stroke in August. Norm was a wonderful person, a considerate and generous husband, father, grandfather and lawyer. He will be hugely missed. Norm is survived by his wife Florence, his sons, Doug and Bruce, daughters-in-law Patty and Lori, grandchildren, Celeste and Caroline, Michael and Katie all who have wonderful memories and stories of their life with Norm. Norm was pre-deceased by his brothers, Bob, Glen and Jack. Norm grew up in the Wolseley area attending Laura Secord and Gordon Bell Schools, received his Arts degree in1938 at Wesley College (now University of Winnipeg) and his Law degree in 1942 at Manitoba Law School. He joined the RCAF in 1942 and was a navigator in 1944 flying 34 missions over Europe. Norm married Florence MacLaren in 1947. The two were an inseparable and incredible team for 54 years. Norm practised law with David Bowles then co-founded Christie Degraves MacKay (now Inkster Christie). As a lawyer he was dedicated to his clients and volunteered his services to the Law Society and many community organizations. From Norms early days at the family cottage at Minaki and the hunting lodge at Libau he loved the outdoors. His summers from 1947 were at Clearwater Bay where wonderful family events, building projects and friends gave our family so much happiness. Norm loved his retirement and especially his free time to spend at the lake where he thrived in the company of his grandchildren and he provided so much enjoyment for them. Norm has been an inspiration for all with his utmost respect for people and incredible sense of humour even when faced with numerous medical difficulties. His loss cannot be described but he was ready, having lived a full and happy life. The family wishes to thank the nurses at the 5th floor Victoria General Hospital, the Home Care workers and the nursing and staff at the third floor Riverview Health Centre, all of who provided compassionate care and assistance. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Norm may be made to Victoria General Hospital Research Foundation or Riverview Health Centre Foundation. Service to be held on Wednesday, January 9 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Pauls Anglican Church, Point Road at North Drive. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
