FRANK CHARLES HAMATA Frank Charles Hamata, beloved husband of Donna (nee McLean), who predeceased him in March 2001. He was born in Winnipeg, MB on February 10, 1927 and rejoined his much loved and sadly missed wife January 4, 2002, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. His death was peaceful and in the company of his children. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his sons, Don and Gary (Linda) and daughter Kathy Holme; grandchildren, Tina, William and Nicholas, Michael, Peter, Christian and Alison, Taylor and Alexander; nieces, nephews and many dear relatives and friends. We were all fortunate to have shared in his love, generosity, humour and compassion. Frank was a civil engineer who graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1949 and went on to a distinguished career in marine construction. In 1965 he co-founded Sceptre Dredging Ltd.. and as President was instrumental in building Sceptre into an international concern until his retirement in 1984. Frank and Donna enjoyed travel and spending time on the golf courses on Maui, abroad and at home. They met while both were performing in light opera at the University of Manitoba and both enjoyed performing in a number of productions there and continued to enjoy music and song for the rest of their lives. We wish to give heartfelt thanks to his doctor Dr. D. Van Agelen and the nurses and staff of the Palliative Care Unit at Lions Gate Hospital for their kind, loving and nurturing care which made his last few weeks so much more comfortable. In lieu of flowers, donations to the British Columbia Cancer Society for Lung Cancer Research would be gratefully appreciated. A celebration of Franks life shall be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 11, 2002 at the Capilano Golf and Country Club in West Vancouver.
