KRISTMUNDUR (MUNDI) GUDFINNUR JOHNSON With great sadness, after a lengthy illness, we announce the passing of our dearly beloved husband, father, brother, Afi and friend. With the family by his side Mundi passed away January 13, 2002 at the Betel Home in Selkirk, MB. Mundi was predeceased by his son Johnnie, grandsons, Kevin and Shaun; and parents, Siggi and Freda. Survived by his beloved wife of 58 years Laverne, son Dale (Edna), daughter Sherri, and sisters, Kristjana and Lenore (Mike) and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Mundi was born and raised on Hecla Island. He was a commercial fisherman and transported fish by gas boat throughout Lake Winnipeg. Mundi knew the lake like the back of his hand and always said, "Never take the lake for granted, as it can be your best friend or worst enemy". Later in life Mundi became a professional painter by trade. Prayers and viewing will be held at Gilbarts Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St., Selkirk, MB on Thursday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m. with Rev. Peter Cain officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cremation to follow with a private burial at the Hecla South Cemetery at a later date.
