Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERTRAM LEON MEINDL 1920 - 2002 " BERT " Peacefully on January 20, 2002 at the Victoria General Hospital he leaves to forever cherish his memory, and mourn his passing, his loving wife, Nora of 59 years, his five sons, Terrence (Clare), Michael (Paula), Frederick (Gena), Bert (Linda) and Paul. Grandchildren, Shawna (Mel), Jamie (Angel) Sandi (Paul), Brian (Tammy), Sean (Amy), Evan, Les, Kyle and Neil. Great-grandchildren, Dani, Cody, Ty, Brittany, Colton and Meg. Step-great-grandchildren, Andy and Melony; and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Gertrude; son Jamie; brother Gerald; sister-in-law Rose; and sister Bernice. He is survived by his brother, Thomas. Dad was born in The Pas, MB on March, 29 1920. He was raised and educated in Winnipeg. He worked with his father in retail sales until enrolling in the Canadian Army in 1939. He served overseas with the Fort Garry Horse and The Royal Canadian Ordinance Corp. He met and married his beloved Nora while serving overseas, returning home to Winnipeg in 1945 with three sons. Dad was a career Military Officer serving his country throughout many postings in Canada. He retired from the R.C.A.F in 1967 as a Captain and commenced a second career in Real Estate as owner and general manager of Hearth-N-Home Ltd. until his retirement in 1985. He was actively involved in the Knights of Columbus serving as Grand Knight of St. James Council, District Deputy, and Marshall of the 4th Degree of Miles MacDonnell Council. Eventually attaining his life membership. He was also a member in good standing of the Royal Canadian Legion for 25 years. Dads favourite pastime was spending time with his family at his cottage at Twin Lakes Beach. He loved to garden, play bridge and sip a cool ale. A celebration of Dads life will be held at Mary Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Dr., Winnipeg on Thursday, January 24. Viewing will take place at 10:30 a.m. followed with the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Fr. Carl Tarnopolski presiding.Following cremation, a private family interment will be held at St. Marys Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at Victoria General Hospital, St. Norbert Nursing Home and Fort Garry Centre for their kindness and assistance to Bert during the time he was in their care.
