LEONARD RONALD CORLISS 1913 - 2002 Leonard passed away peacefully after a long struggle with medical problems at the Maples Personal Care Home with his daughter at his side. Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle has joined Mary, his beloved wife. Leonard was born in St. Agathe, MB. He was one of twins (Leroy) to parents, John and Anna who died giving birth. Leonard was raised to the age of seven by his fathers close friends, the Sveinson family. Leonard then moved to Clarkleigh where the family farmed and he went to school. His father took sick at a very early age and Leonard had to help take care of him and his siblings. He then drove the school bus for the area. Leonard moved to Saskatchewan where he farmed for many years with the LeSann family, where he struck a friendship for the rest of his life. He moved back to Winnipeg where he married his childhood sweetheart Mary Macaulay. In 1943 he worked for Thompsons Dairy for a few years then worked for Kildonan Canoe Co. where he became Foreman in the making of the Vanguard boat. This was a hard, grueling job which Dad stayed with until he had to retire due to ill health. Mom and Dad had a cottage where they spent a lot of their time at Winnipeg Beach. A lot of family and friends enjoyed their place, sometimes there was so many campers and trailers in the yard we tripped over each other. In 1972, my father received word from his mothers side of the family of my dads unknown relatives. He found 52 relatives, which gave him a lot of reassured family reunions and trips. He also met one other sister and learned he had a brother and another sister - then deceased. Dad was very happy to have found all this heritage. Dad was never involved with many outside home activities. He was proud of a very neat yard and a good upkept house and was always visiting the neighbours and helping them in ways he could. He did enjoy people visiting and staying at his place and if there was a birthday or event, etc, Dad/Leonard could always be found kicking up his heels in the basement. He loved music and also enjoyed his family. Left to cherish his memory are daughter Eleanor and son-in-law Roy Anderson of Selkirk, granddaughter Tracy Leiss with great-grandson Jesse, grandson Marvin Reid with great-granddaughter Delaney, granddaughter Kelly Reid and fiancee Robert Petit, and many other extended family members including his found family from the States. He is also survived by his sisters, Bernice (Larry) Graham and Marybelle Gluting. He was predeceased by his mother Anna - at childbirth, his father John, his brother Bill, his sister Blanche, his step-mother Fanny, his sister-in-law Mary, his son David, his father-in-law David and mother-in-law Mary, his sister Bessie, his beloved wife Mary, his brother-in-law Frank, sister-in-law Mary and his brother Leroy. The family would like to thank all of you who have been there for all of us throughout the past several years, the staff at The Maples, you have been just great, the surrounding hospitals and all the medical people. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 24 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 25 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Chapel.
