IRENA HOLEJKO Peacefully on Sat-urday, January 19, 2002 at Seven Oaks Hospital, Irena died at the age of 82. Irena is survived by her sister-in-law Irena Chubaty, brother-in-law Myroslaw Roslycky, nephews and a niece, and their children, and special friends. She was predeceased by her husband Longin in 1965, brother Bohdan, and sisters, Daria and Halyna. Irena was born March 29, 1919 in Peremyshl, Western Ukraine. She graduated from college in her hometown. Due to wartime circumstances, she was forced to leave her homeland. Irena married Dr. Longin Holejko in Munich, Germany in 1946. She arrived in Canada in 1951 residing permanently in Winnipeg. For many years, Irena was employed by the "Canadian Farmer" press, and then by Progress Vera Credit Union. She was a longtime member of Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, and active member of Zoloty Vorota Seniors Club and a supporter of many organizations. The family would like to kindly thank the fine staff of Seven Oaks Hospital, 5th floor for their superior care of Irena during her last months of life. Panachyda will be sung 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 24 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 25 at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 115 McGregor St. Interment will follow in All Saints Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would gratefully appreciate that donations made in Irenas memory be made to Taras Shevchenko Foundation or a charity of ones choice.
