Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDOUGLAS LEIGH CASSIDY With great sadness, the family announces the passing of Douglas Leigh Cassidy on Sunday, February 3, 2002. Doug was born on November 27, 1937. He was a long distance truck driver who achieved many awards over the years for safe driving. While his children were growing up, he coached minor baseball and in 1974 and 1975, he was very proud when the team won the Provincial Bantam Championships. Doug also enjoyed fishing, especially his annual trips with friends to Rocky Lake and the annual September long weekend trip with his family. He had many trucking friends throughout North America and all of his family learned to sit waiting for him for hours while he went to talk to a friend for "just a minute." He was a great and proud dad and grandpa and he had a special and unique relationship with each of his children and grandchildren. Margie joined Doug as his co-driver eight years ago and mostly he enjoyed driving down the road with her by his side and talking on the phone to his many friends and relatives. Doug is survived by his wife and co-driver Margie; children, Susan (Ron), Kirk (Martha), Greg (Marla) and Troy (Connie) grandchildren, Alexia and Clarke, Aaron and Breanna and Jana and Taryn. He was predeceased by his mother Jessie; father George and brother Bryson. A memorial service will be held at the Bethany Community Centre, Bethany, MB, on Wednesday, February 6 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Craig Gibbs officiating. A private family interment will take place at a later date. If friends so desire, donations, in memory of Doug, may be made to the Westman Dreams for Kids Foundation, 1435 Princess Ave., Brandon, MB R7A 0R6. As many people know, Doug fought and won a battle with the bottle 24 years ago. Dougs motto in life, that he lived by, was the Serenity Prayer: "God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the difference."
