MARIA VAN CAUWENBERGH (nee SOENS) It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Maria Van Cauwenbergh on Monday, February 4, 2002 at the Tache Centre. She was predeceased by her younger sister Antoinette (1909) parents, Edward and Eugenie Soens (nee Maes) husband Charles (1974) sons, Albert, Maurice, Joe, Roger; son-in-law Raymond Coulombe (Ohio) and granddaughter Linda Leys. Left to cherish Marias memories are her sons, Daniel (Beatrice), Eugene (Claire) daughters, Irene Coulombe (Ohio), Denise Leys (Robert), Suzanne Lang (Ben), Delphine Lang (Ted), Albertha Van Cauwenbergh, Eleanor Kirkeby (Joe Aerssens), Marlene Gariepy (Dennis), Judy Nagy (Ray) 28 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren; as well as many nephews in Ohio, U.S.A. Maria was born May 15, 1903 in Wynghem, West Flanders, Belgium and came to Canada at an early age. She enjoyed a long, active and full life. Maria loved her gardens, racing pigeons and all of her pet birds and animals. She was a member of the Belgian Club and was the secretary treasurer of the Pigeon Club. She loved to play Bingo and was an avid Cribbage player winning many trophies at the St. Louis Centre. Viewing will take place Friday, February 8 at 10:30 a.m. in the Holy Family Church, 778 Archibald St., with funeral mass celebrating Marias life to follow at 11:00 a.m. The family would like to thank all the Sisters, Fr. Baert for his visits, the nurses and staff at the Tache Nursing Centre 2ABC for the care they provided during her stay, and the last moments of her life.
