EVA NIKKEL Quietly, at Donwood Personal Care Home in Winnipeg, on Monday, February 4, 2002 at the age of 97, with her sister Nettie and her niece Jean Polet by her side, Eva Nikkel went to meet her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. She leaves to mourn her passing, her sister Nettie, whom she lived with for many years, her sister Gertrude Hiebert of Altona and her sister Esther Siemens of Bethania Personal Care Home in Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her father Henry Nikkel and her mother Margaretha (Friesen) Nikkel, three brothers and five sisters. Eva was a charter member of the Bethel Mennonite Church in Winnipeg. She was greatly loved by her 49 nieces and nephews, all of whom she regarded as her own dear family, and who all regarded her as a mother figure. She deeply touched the lives of her family as well as many with whom she associated during her years as a seamstress, and later as a home care worker with the Manitoba Social Services. Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 8 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Mennonite Church at the corner of Stafford and Carter in Winnipeg. Viewing one hour prior to the service. As expressions of sympathy for those who wish to do so, donations may be made to the Bethel Mennonite Church or Union Gospel Mission, where Eva spent many hours of volunteer work. The family will receive friends at the Bethel Mennonite Fellowship Hall, following the celebration of her long and happy life. Interment will take place in the family plot in Altona, MB. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
