KATHLEEN ALICE (KAY) SKINNER 1916-2002 With deep sorrow, Kays family announces the passing of their beloved mother and grandmother on February 2, 2002 at the St. Boniface Hospital. Kay was predeceased by our father John, to whom she was married for 46 years. She continued to love and miss him till the day she died. Mom was born in Winnipeg and lived her entire life here. She grew up in a loving home, filled with laughter and good times. She managed the family home when her mother became an invalid, and her parents continued to live with her and our Dad after they were married in 1946. It was a privilege to grow up with these four loving people to teach and guide us. Mom was a wonderful, nurturing wife and mother, offering support and unconditional love in good times and in bad. She appreciated each of us for who we are and was proud of us all, especially her cherished grandchildren. The family dogs were also the recipients of her love and many treats. Mom was a charter member of the St. George Home and School Association, and a volunteer at the St. Vital Y.M.C.A. for many years. She was a longtime member of the Elm Park Ladies Bowling League and in the latter years volunteered at the Fort Garry Care Centre. Mom discovered her Paradise on her first visit to Hawaii with Dad on their 25th Wedding Anniversary, and they spent most winters there in the years that followed. Mom corresponded with many of the friends they made in Hawaii until her stoke prevented her from doing so. Mom was predeceased by our father John, her siblings, Elsie and husband Howard, Clarrie and husband George, and Jack and wife Bette; daughter Judy; Dads sister Lorna and husband Harold; daughter Marsha; and Dads sister Cicily. Mom was devastated by the passing of so many of her dear friends in the past couple of years, particularly her childhood friend Margaret Everett and her husband Art, and her dear friend Gladys Woods. Surviving to cherish her memory are her daughter Vicki Turnbull and husband Gord, whom Mom loved and trusted so much, grandchildren, Paul (Ashley) Ivory and Erin Ivory; and son Bill Skinner and wife Barbara, who was very special to Mom, grandchildren, Gary and Lindsay. Mom always told people how lucky she was to have such a great son and daughter-in-law, and loved Gord and Barb as if they were her own children. Also surviving are nephews, Dennis McCrea and his family in Toronto, and Lawrence Burt and his family; nieces, Maggie Sawchuk and her family, Linda Wyatt and her family, and Donna Baxter and her family; Johns brother Bert and his family in New Zealand, brother-in-law Stan Drysdale in Cambridge, ON; dear and special friend Jack Carpenter and his family. Mom loved us with all her heart and was much loved in return. We will carry her in our hearts beside our father, which is where she longed to be for eternity. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no formal service. Mom and Dads ashes will be combined and scattered at a spot that was very special to them at a future date, as Mom requested. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Oliver Bereznay and the staff on 6AMED at the St. Boniface Hospital for the loving and concern they showed while caring for our mother. Flowers gratefully declined. Those wishing to do so may make a donation in Kays memory to the Winnipeg Humane Society or to a charity of their choice. "Together again, sweet be they rest."
