ALICE HANCHARYK It is with deep sorrow and sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mother and grandmother, Alice Hancharyk, aged 78 years, on February 12, 2002, at home. Alice was predeceased by her parents, Mike and Kathleen Porrok; her loving husband Carl; brother Mike Porrok; sister Annie Levandoski; and special friend Mitchell Bartlett. She leaves to cherish her memory son Jim and his wife Debra; daughter Sandra Unger and her husband Bob; grandchildren, Carolyn, Brianne and Bobby; four sisters, Mary Sholdak, Jean Gutoski, Nellie Tanchuk, Pauline Loepp; one brother Bill Porrok; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom worked at the Hotel Fort Garry and then at Sears until her retirement. She was a member of St. Josaphats Ukrainian Catholic Womens League. Gardening and playing bingo were among the many things she loved to do. Baba loved her grandchildren and cooked special dishes for them. She was always generous and happy to help others. Since her retirement, she opened her heart and her home to several foster children. Mom most especially loved to be surrounded by the company of her family, friends and loved to challenge them to a game of cards. Prayers will be held on Thursday, February 14, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church, 590 Alverstone St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, February 15, at 11:00 a.m., also at St. Josaphat Church, with Rev. Fr. Ihor Royik officiating. Interment will follow at Assumption Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Garry Gutoski, Larry Tanchuk, Barry Levandosky, Gerald Levandoski, Rudy Loepp and Michael Porrok.
