HUBERT (BERT) WENDEN Peacefully, at home, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, February 13, 2002, Hubert (Bert) Wenden, aged 61 years, beloved husband of Christine. His illness was fought with dignity and great courage. In May, 1998, Bert was diagnosed with malignant melanoma. He underwent major surgery as well as radiation and chemotherapy for over one year. Bert remained strong in his faith and kept a very positive attitude. He enjoyed the last three years, spent his time golfing, curling, boating, spending time at Royal Lake, with his many friends. On January 14, 2002, a nine centimetre tumour appeared in his stomach which affected his liver and was no longer treatable. He was in hospital until January 23, 2002. His love and prayers will always be our everlasting remembrance and his final blessing. Born September 10, 1940, in St. Boniface, to Gerard and Alice Wenden, Bert attended school in La Broquerie, worked on the family farm at a very young age, worked in the bush with his father, then went on to road construction. He then was employed by Hugh Munro Construction and finally with CP Rail from which he retired due to illness in 1998. He fulfilled his dream of moving back to the homestead at La Broquerie where he built his beautiful home with his beautiful family. He is survived by his wife Christine (his Angel) sons, Daniel, Paul (Michelle), and Jason; daughter Daphne; grandchildren, Kyle, Sean, Jamie, Michael and Katelynn; his mother Alice Wenden, brothers, Bernie (Marguerite) and Louis; sisters, Dolores Champagne, Claudette (Denis) Simard, Huguette (Ron) Powlesland, Marie-Reine (Gary) Jonson, Myriam Ironstand, Michelle (Roy) Seidler, Diane (Henri) Turenne; and many, many caring relatives and friends.
