Her beloved husband Urbain was waiting for her at the gates of Heaven. Charlotte leaves many with tears in their hearts including her daughter Christine Skaggs of St. Albert, AB; son Robert and wife Connie of Winnipeg; her four grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) Abel, Heather (Michael) Friesen, Cynthia and Lisa Ashton. She also leaves behind two great-grandchildren, Quentin and Colton Friesen; two sisters, Mrs. Helen (Weldon) Orr of Hamilton, ON, and Mrs. Antoinette Coombs of Fort McMurray; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Doreen Lee of Victoria, BC and Mrs. Cecile Wallace of Brampton, ON; many nieces and nephews whom she felt close to and kept in close contact all her life. Charlotte was born in Aylmer, PQ, and during her life time lived in every province outside the Maritimes and five years in South America. In 1942 Charlotte married Urbain in Hamilton, ON. When Urbain joined the Air Force she started what was to become a long career of volunteerism. She worked for the Red Cross during the war. She was very active in the 1950s in the Catholic Womens League of Canada (CWL). Charlotte served as President of the CWL in Peace River, AB, in Dawson Creek, BC, Diocese of Prince Rupert, BC and later as CWL Provincial Treasurer of BC. Charlotte was also President of Home and School of Notre Dame in Dawson Creek, and served as Badge Secretary for the Brownies for several years. In 1964 Charlotte helped organize the Regina Newcomers Club and was its first elected President. Moving to Winnipeg in 1971 Charlottes volunteer efforts turned to Childrens Hospital Research Foundation. Joining St. Agnes Guild she served as its President for two years, becoming Guild Council Chairperson and chairing the Childrens Hospital Annual Appeal for two years. Charlotte was then honoured by being named Vice President of the Board of the Research Foundation for three years. Charlotte volunteered with the Book Market. In 1997 she was inducted as a Quarter Century member of the Childrens Hospital. Charlotte and Urbain made and donated many beautiful crafts for St. Agnes Fall Festivals. She was so pleased to meet all her guild members and friends at the last Christmas Luncheon. The guild will miss her dearly. Charlotte was active in the Rotary Inner Wheel Club and served as its president then becoming a member of the Past Presidents Club. Charlotte was a dedicated volunteer and enjoyed meeting people from all walks of life. Maybe that was the reason she never had time to be bored. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, February 18 at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. A reception will follow in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre.
