EDWARD WILLIAM LEE Ed lost his battle with cancer on February 17, 2002. Ed is survived by his adored wife Nancy, much loved daughter, Cindy (Joe), son Glenn (Marie), and granddaughters; Kaitlyn and Melissa; brother Ron (Anne) nieces Cheryl and Melanie and numerous others. Eddie was born and raised in Winnipegs North End. He remained proud of that heritage and had especially fond memories of the food from the Grandmothers kitchen. After the schools were closed, Ed helped with the defence of the city during the fifty flood and began his working career at the Canadian Wheat Board shortly after. He started as an office boy and worked his way up. He was in the first group of people to work with computers at CWB. He worked on the computer systems until he took early retirement in 1988. After his retirement he became a common sight in the neighbourhood, either on foot or on his bike. One of the neighbours would use him as a weather indicator to determine what the kids would wear to school. He made friends with all the business people in the area and could be found most mornings in the local Sals with all the cronies solving world problems. He threw himself into activities for the Winnipeg Press Club, helping to organize and run softball and golf tournaments. He became one of the set builders and back stage managers for Beer and Skits and enjoyed enhancing his carpentry skills. Throughout his life, he was a strong advocate for physical activity. He lifted weights for almost 50 years before his illness made it too difficult. Ed loved to laugh. You always knew when Ed was in a room because you could always distinguish the laugh. He loved music and the outdoors, belonging to the Fort Whyte Centre for many years. "Cancer cannot still the laughter Cancer cannot stop the love Cancer cannot dim the spirit Cancer can only take the body Ed will live forever in our hearts." Flowers are gratefully declined. A donation to CancerCare in Eds name would be gratefully appreciated. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 21 at 1:00 p.m. at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway.
