Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemorySAMUEL (SAVERIO) Di COSIMO March 11, 1911 - January 4, 2002 Sam had experiences in a changing Winnipeg world and relished talking of them. Born on Manitoba Avenue, he experienced the depression hardships, the swinging 1930s and 40s and the changing aerospace industry in which he worked. He charted his environment from the North End to Charleswood. His godparents were Mr. and Mrs. Gatto who owned a store on Redwood and Main. Sam boxed at the OBU and won City of Winnipeg medals. As a boy while going to Machray School, he worked for Kennedy Brothers, Northern Shirt and Gillis Quaries. He found his niche in the aircraft industry, working at Standard Aero and becoming an inspector at Saunders Aircraft. He received commendations for his work and went to the United States for training. Sam met his devoted wife Mae while working at Gimli during the Second World War. On McGee Street they lived with Barry, their three-legged dog. While residing in Charleswood Mae had a series of strokes. Sam became her caregiver. He was known as the "small man with the big car, pushing his wifes wheelchair." Sam had a genius for things mechanical. His two passions were fixing things and collecting coins. Sam was proud of his Italian descent and his mothers contribution to The Pieta at Holy Rosary Church. He wired the lights of the original alcove. He was predeceased by Mae in 1991; his parents Frank and Angela Palma; siblings, Jack, Mary, Billy, Gundy, Eda and Teddy. He thought he outlived other family members because he went twice to the Mayo Clinic. Friends, neighbours, caregivers of the Di Cosimo/Stockton families join us Saturday, February 16 after 2:00 p.m. at 239 Elm St. In lieu of offerings seek out and spend time with a lonely person. Sam said, "Be careful! Watch out for the other guy!" LECLAIRE BROTHERS in care of arrangements, 775-2220.
