JOSEPH (JOE) SERGEANT Peacefully, on February 22, 2002, at St. Boniface Hospital, with his family at his side, Joe went to his eternal rest, after a courageous battle with cancer. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 63 years, Julia; his son Robert (Irene) his daughter Jo-Anne (Frank) Wade; his grand-children, Jayson, Layton, Nicole, Sean; and great-grandchild Victoria Ashley. He was predeceased by his parents, Jules and Martha; and his sister Elizabeth. Joe was born in Sweveghem, Belgium, on June 8, 1918. Together with his parents, he immigrated to Canada and in 1930 settled in St. Boniface. Joe retired from T.C.A./Air Canada after 33 years of service. He served his country proudly in the R.C.A.F. from 1924 to 1945. His devotion to community service is evident by his contribution to the Belgian Credit Union - serving as Director for over 40 years. He was a member of the St. Sebastian Archery Club since 1936, and former President. Joe was a life-long member of the Belgian Club and was President of the Belgian Veterans Association, Branch #107, Royal Canadian Legion. He was an enthusiastic curler, pole archer and previous ten pin bowler and was an avid gardener.
