BLANCHE KATHERINE SMITH 1914 - 2002 Blanche Katherine Smith passed away peacefully on Monday, February 18, 2002 at Dinsdale Personal Care Home where she has resided since January of 1994. She was 87 years of age. Blanche was born in Oak Lake, MB on the family farm, the youngest of six in her family. As a young bride she and her husband George initially lived in Oak Lake and later moved to Brandon where they raised their family. Blanche was predeceased by her husband George in 1992, her son Lorne Gerald in 1986, and an infant daughter Beverley Louise in 1938. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Judy and her husband Murray Hutton of Winnipeg, and her daughter-in law Barbara Smith of White Rock, BC. She also leaves her four grandsons, Jeff Smith (Jonna) and great-grandchildren, Courtney and Brendan of Etobicoke, ON; Todd Smith (Melisse) and great-grandchildren, Benjamin and Alexandria of Washington, DC, Michael Hutton (Sheila) and great-grandson Andrew; and Scott Hutton (Melanie) of Winnipeg; as well as several nieces and nephews. Blanche took great pride in her family and was always eager to talk about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was so proud of all of them. In the past Blanche loved to crochet and knit and we will all remember her by the articles that she made. She was active in her church, St. Andrews Presbyterian, until she was physically unable to attend. Her family would like to thank all staff at Dinsdale Personal Care Home for their care over the past eight years. Your smiles and hellos meant so much to her. Thank you. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations in memory of Blanche may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB, R3C 2B6 or a charity of your choice. The funeral service will be held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 361 Russell St., Brandon on Friday, February 22 at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. John van Vliet officiating. Interment will be held at a later date at Rosewood Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are with Memories Chapel & Pre-Planning Centre, 727-0330.
