BETTE BROOKS Suddenly, on Wednesday, February 20, 2002, at Johnson Memorial, Bette Brooks, wife of Jim Brooks of Arnes, MB (formerly of Transcona) passed away. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband Jim; sons, Rick (Pat), Brent (Lori) her grandchildren, Lyndsay, Kristy and Eric. She will also be sadly missed by her sisters, Shirley (Bill) Manvell, Joyce Taylor, Elsie (Ross) Davidson, sisters-in-law, Betty (Pat) Healy and Anna Brooks and numerous nieces and nephews. For many years Bette and Jim made their home in Transcona. She spent many seasons with the Avenue Mixed League at the Transcona Bowling alley and was a member of the Confidence Rebekah Lodge #40 for 51 years. Upon retirement, Bette and Jim made their permanent home at Spruce Bay. They enjoyed travelling in particular, to Florida, Texas, Arizona and her first Caribbean Cruise. Bettes family will cherish the many years of memories spent at the family summer home; especially the huge horseshoe tournaments, fireside chats and sing-songs till the wee hours of the morning. Bette was well known for her gardens, both vegetable and flowers. She had an extensive collection of "Betty Boop" memorabilia which she took great pride in. Service of remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 26 at Green Acres Funeral chapel, Hwy #1 at Navin. A private family interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Bette may be made to the charity of ones choice. Special thanks are extended to the nursing staff and doctors of Johnson Memorial Hospital, Gimli, MB.
