Olga Koss was born in Winnipeg on August 25, 1909. She spent her childhood on the farm in Russell, MB, and returned to Winnipeg for further schooling. There she received the name "Joyce". After completing grade seven at Isaac Newton, Joyce served a number of families in Selkirk and Winnipeg before entering employment in the garment, fur and dry-cleaning industries. While still a teen she met Maxwell Steiman, whom she married on August 23, 1935 in Chicago. Thereafter she devoted herself full time to child rearing and home-making. Deeply committed to her faith, her family, and her community, Joyce instilled in her sons the values by which she lived. Despite severe hearing loss she enjoyed company immensely and, to the end, remained a source of delight to those around her. Joyce was particularly fortunate to spend her final months at Pembina Place. On her behalf, we express our most sincere appreciation to Dr. R. Ramgoolam and to nurses and care-givers Cathy, Sheila, Irma, Doris, Sherry, Colleen, Dawnda, Bozena, David, Bev, Veeda, and Paulette for their loving care and kindness. Prayers and visitation will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 22 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere. The funeral service will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 23 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2528 King Edward St., Rev. Jan Pastucha officiating.
