RONALD VERNON HOUGHTON After a lengthy illness, Ron, our much-loved husband, father, grandfather and friend, passed away in his hometown of Selkirk at the age of 70 years. Ron was an officer with the Royal Canadian Air Force while attaining his civil engineering degree at the University of Manitoba. He went on to have a long and accomplished career with the City of Winnipeg. He was the founding president of WAPSO, contributed to a 1986 book on the history of civil engineering in Canada, wrote the plan to retrofit North American cities for public building access for the physically challenged for the APWA, and was an active member of the communities in which he lived in. While his professional life was important to him, Rons greatest passion was his family. his wife Cynthia; daughter Christine; son Gordon (Angela) daughter Jocelyne (Duraid) daughter Carmen (Kevin) and his beloved grandchildren, Shea, Joshua, Emily, Khalil and Freya will miss him more than words can say. He was our anchor, our inspiration and created the bond that holds our family together. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Alan and Emily Houghton; mother-in-law Ragny McArthur; brother Allan Houghton; sister Carol Prefontaine, and brother-in-law Hubert Prefontaine. Funeral services will be held at the Selkirk United Church, 202 McLean Ave., Selkirk, MB on Wednesday, February 27 at 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
