ROBERT W. McGUIRE October 31, 1920 - February 21, 2002 Robert McGuire passed away peacefully in the arms of his family on Thursday, February 21, 2002 at the Victoria Hospital. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Ruth, on July 20, 2000. He leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his memory his children, Roberta, Jon (Irene), Marilee (Larry) and Kathleen (Barry). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Mary Kate, Karen, David, Sean, Patrick, Meghan, Jeffrey, Sara, Eli and their respective families; his great-granddaughter Maren; and his brother, Art, as well as numerous other relatives and dear friends. Bob (Lt. Cdr. RCN Ret.) was born and raised in Saskatoon, SK, where he also received his education. He joined the Naval Service in August, 1939 as a Midshipman in the RCN and served in East Coast ports and at sea. In September, 1941, he was united in marriage with his best friend from high school, Ruth Donnelly. Ruth joined him in St. Johns, NF, Saint John, NB, Edmonton, AB, and finally in Winnipeg. Bob joined United Grain Growers Ltd. in January 1956 where he worked in the Public Press Division. He became Publisher of Country Guide and Canadian Cattleman in 1967, a position he held until his retirement in 1986. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made to the Manitoba Lung Association, 629 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3A 1P6, or to a charity of your choice. Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 510 River Ave. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave., with a reception in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre.
