MAURICE EMILE FRANSOO Peacefully, on February 22, 2002, at the St. Boniface Hospital, Maurice Emile Fransoo passed away at the age of 83 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 53 years, Jeannette (nee Lanouette), his brother Gerard (Angele) of Winnipeg, his sisters, Alice (George) Roeland of Mariapolis, MB, and Marguerite Epps of Innisfail, AB; sister-in-law Eleanor of Edmonton, AB; brother Marcel (Shirley) of Baldur, MB; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Maurice was predeceased his sister Madeleine Scheurbeke, and his brother Charles Fransoo. Maurice was born on August 18, 1918 on the family farm at Swan Lake, MB. He was educated at St. Urbain and St. Marie Schools. He worked on the family farm until he joined the Cameron Highlanders. He served honourably in Europe during the Second World War. After the war he returned to Mariapolis. Maurice married Jeannette Lanouette on October 26, 1948. They lived in Bruxelles for eight years until they moved to Winnipeg in 1956. Maurice worked for Powell Equipment until he joined his brother Gerry at Sterling Upholstery. They remained partners until his retirement in 1980. Jeannie and Maurice moved to their cottage at Twin Beaches on Lake Manitoba for the summers and enjoyed their winters in Arizona. Maurice entertained his many nieces and nephews with his stories, jokes and many pranks. He fascinated all with his collection of handicrafts, antiques and lawn whirligigs. He could most often be found tinkering with one of his old cars, his Christmas light displays or the many projects in his workshop at the cottage. He was active with the Belgian Veterans Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. He will be greatly missed. Prayer vigil will be held Monday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m. at P. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 156 Marion St. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 26 at 1:00 p.m. at the Holy Cross Parish Church, 252 Dubuc St. Pallbearers will be Paul and Dain Lanouette, Ken Fransoo, Roger Bissette, Reynold Bourdeaudhui, and Ken Baccus. The family would like to thank Fr. Gilbert Gariepy, Dr. Kevin Coates, the nurses and staff of the St. Boniface Hospital.
