HELENA DOBRINSKY (KUBARA)
Born: Jul 28, 1924
Date of Passing: Feb 22, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELENA DOBRINSKY (nee KUBARA) July 28, 1924 - February 22, 2002 With great sadness and sorrow our mother, baba and best friend passed away suddenly but peacefully at home. Our mother was born and raised in the North End of the city and later in married life moved to West Kildonan, where she remained except for the period between 1969 -1980. Due to her husbands (Speed) employment transfer with Air Canada, she lived in Montreal (Dorval), PQ. While living in Montreal our parents had many friends. They looked forward to dancing at the legion on Saturday nights, visiting friends and adventurous family drives exploring the city and countryside on weekends. In Winnipeg, she was a member for 50 years at Branch #141 Ukrainian Legion in the Ladies Auxiliary. This was where you would find our parents on weekends with their friends and family dancing and socializing. Mom was a member in the Senior Achievers Club till recent and had many caring family and friends from there. In recent years she also attended Fred Douglas Lodge day program each Tuesday. It was the highlight of her week. The activity workers ensured a supporting and fun environment. She had only missed a few times recently due to critical care needed but once well there was no question where she was going to be on Tuesdays. Our parents were married for 53 years. Dad passed away January 1995, and our mother was devoted to caring for him in his last years. Soon after his passing she battled and won over cancer while still mourning for him. Although various health problems continued to slow her down, she kept her chin up with no complaints to others. There was a determination to live independently to the best of her ability. Our mother, baba loved us all unconditionally. Always wanting to take care of us first before herself. As children, mom always welcomed new and various pets to our home even when they showed up unexpectedly. Mom also liked car drives, anywhere, exploring and sightseeing, stopping for picnics and going to the cottage and beach for the day if she was physically up to it. She enjoyed watching skating and curling on TV, most recently the Olympics. The day was not complete unless she read the newspaper from start to finish. Helena was predeceased by her husband Stephen (Speed) in January 1995; son Larry June 1958; parents, Anna and Michael Kubara; and brothers, John and William Kubara. Cherished and lovingly remembered by her children, Brian (granddaughter Jill), Douglas (Pam and grandchildren Laura and David), Dale Parkinson (Rick and grandchildren Kate and Tracy), Lori G. Warniski (grandson Colin). She is survived by her brothers, Michael and Eddy (Jennie) Kubara; sisters, Olga Andronick (Bill) and Emily Rose; sisters-in-law, Jean Kubara, Minnie Kubara, Evelyn Gabbs, Jean Dobrinsky, DeeDee Clark (Tom), Mabel Olynyk, Ann Bachman and Nerky McMillan; brothers-in-law Bill Dobrinsky (Nellie) and Fred Dixon (Norma) and many nieces and nephews. Thank you to various staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital who cared for our mother. To Richard Halavaros a respitory technologist whos gentle manner comforted her. To Doctors and Nurses in Intensive Care which mom nicknamed The Angel Ward due to their professionalism and gentle caring manners and made her feel worthwhile and safe. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 28 at 10:00 a.m. also at the Chapel. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Moms memory to the Seven Oaks Hospital Foundation, 2300 McPhillips St., Winnipeg, MB, R2V 9Z9. Moms life was her family, for which no service or sacrifice was too great. We are honoured and proud to be her children and she will always be remembered. Rest in Peace If you think of me and cry, dont think of me at all. But if you think of me and smile, Think of me often. CROPO FUNERAL CHAPEL 586-8044
