Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHERBERT GORDON MONTHEY Surrounded by his loving wife and family, Herb passed away on Friday, March 1, 2002 at Concordia Hospital at the age of 80 years. Beloved husband and best friend of Betty; father of Janice (Jim Trosky), Kim (John Little) and Gord; grandchildren, Kyle and Elliott Trosky and Garrett and Erin Little. Also, he leaves to mourn his sister Florence Drennan and her family. Herb was born January 14, 1922 in Kipling, SK and was always proud to say he was from Saskatchewan. He came to Winnipeg at 15 when his family was forced to abandon their farm due to the continued drought in the Thirties. As well as attending Gordon Bell High School, Herb held an amazing number of jobs. His recollections of his adventures always delighted us. After the start of the Second World War, at the age of 17, Herb started taking private flying lessons. At 20, he enlisted in the R.C.A.F. and trained at bases across Canada. Later he flew with Air Observers Service which was part of the British Commonwealth Training Program. Transferring back to the Air Force he trained on bombers and flew with a reconnaissance squadron in the North Atlantic. Returning to civilian life, Herb started his career in the financial field, which became an interest he maintained throughout his life. During this period, he met and married his wife, Betty McDiarmid. Together they shared lifes challenges and many joyous occasions with family and good friends. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service to celebrate Herbs life will take place on Tuesday, March 5 at 4:00 p.m. at Immanuel United Church, 755 Golspie St. In lieu of flowers, donations in Herbs memory may be made to the M.S. Society of Canada or a charity of your choice.
