Date of Passing: Mar 02, 2002
Offer Condolences or MemoryVIOLA RUTH ELLIOT (EGGLESTON) (nee BOIVIN) On March 2, 2002, Viola Elliot died peacefully, with her family at her side, at the St. Boniface Hospital, at the age of 89 years. Violas memory will live forever in the hearts of her children, Linda and Kenton (Eggleston) and Mark (Elliot) and her grandchildren, Clayton, Zela and Norah. She will be greatly missed by her daughter-in-law Susan Murkin and her son-in-law John Sault. Viola was born February 14, 1913 in Winnipeg. Educated at St. Marys Academy and Balmoral Hall, she was a resident in Winnipeg for most of her life. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenton Eggleston, her father Arthur Boivin who was MLA for the Assiniboia riding for some 26 years, her loving mother Zella Iona and sisters, Dorothy, Linda (Lincoln) and Pearl. Viola will be remembered with great love and admiration for her remarkable strength of character, wit and compassion. In the early 1950s, Viola actively participated in the defense of her beloved city in the Great Flood and in the Polio epidemic of the same decade. A brilliant conversationalist and collector, Viola worked in Pharmacology at the Winnipeg General Hospital and was then a very capable buyer for Steinmans Auction House in their formative years. Throughout her life, Viola encountered adversities and the vagaries of fortune with an irrepressible spirit and transcendental faith in people, and in God. She saw everything through with unmatched love, equanimity and an unparalleled ability to look to the wonders and positive joys that exist everywhere in this world. Mass will be celebrated in honour of Violas life at St. Timothy Parish, 135 John Forsyth Rd., at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 12. Interment will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, 506 Osborne St.
