GEORGE OSWALD MEHNER On Friday, March 8, 2002, at Concordia Hospital, George Mehner, beloved husband of Anne, died at the age of 84 years. Besides his loving wife of 53 years, George is survived by one son Gerald; two daughters, Sherry (Lionel) and Donna, all of Winnipeg; three grandchildren, Genafer, David and Chris; one great-granddaughter Ainsley; two sisters, Margaret of Edmonton and Doreen of Winnipeg; and one brother Jack, also of Winnipeg. His parents, brother Alfred and sister Lee predeceased George. George enlisted in February 1942 with the Winnipeg Grenadiers, receiving his training at Terrace and Prince Rupert, BC; Kiska and Victoria and went overseas in June of 1944 where he was transferred to the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. George was employed with Canadian National Railway Express for 42 years, retiring in March of 1983. With his free time, he spent it with his family and his grandchildren. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Jean and staff at Concordia Place Care Centre. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 13, at 1:00 p.m. in Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 708 McCalman at Grey, with Rev. Richard Kruesel officiating. Interment to follow in Glen Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends may donate in Georges memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
