ALEXANDRA ALICE STERNAT

ALEXANDRA ALICE STERNAT Alice ended her earthly journey with dignity and courage and entered into eternal life on March 10, 2002. She was born and educated at Ladywood, then later graduated as a R.N. from Grace General Hospital, Winnipeg. She did post graduate studies in nursing at the University of Manitoba and University of Minnesota. She was employed by the Manitoba Government in Public Health nursing for many years, as well as part time nursing in local hospitals at the conclusion of her nursing career. She worked in obstetrics at Selkirk and District General Hospital where her greatest enjoyment was working with infants. She is survived and will be remembered by her daughters, Michelle (Tony) Lobchuk, Brenda (Chester) Neduzak and grandsons, Evan and Derek; sisters, Mary DeRain of Michigan and Anne of Beausejour; sister-in-law Delores (Edward) Peluk as well as many nieces and nephews. Alice was predeceased by her husband Stanley December 24, 1998; her sister Stefania and brothers, Michael, John, Philip and parents, Samuel and Mary. She will be fondly remembered for her love of children and closeness to her family. She leaves a legacy of generosity, an exceptional empathy and caring for others. She was devoted and caring to her parents and family members over many years. Her greatest joy was her two grandchildren. Alice also loved nursing and took genuine interest in the patients welfare having the same selfless devotion that characterized her whole life. She also traveled extensively with her late husband in Canada, USA and various islands. The highlight of their travels was a Pilgrimage of the Millennium to the Holy Land in February of 2000. She was most committed to the values of her Catholic education and extended this to her family and others to help face the challenges of todays world. She derived much satisfaction from her church affiliation and served in various capacities as well as a devoted CWL member. Her final request was that all of the St. Marys CWL members be her honorary pallbearers. Alice was an active volunteer at the rec center Craft Days, Red Cross and later Blood Services Donor Days, the Learning Center for Disabilities and East Gate Lodge. She was a life member of the Grace Hospital Nurses Alumni Association and the Beausejour Hospital Auxiliary. Her life motto was: "I shall pass thru this world but once. Any good that I can do, or any kindness that I can show any human being, let me do it now and not defer it. For I shall not pass this way again." The family would like to thank Dr. Zeiler and the nurses at the Beausejour Hospital for their care and compassion. Donations in Alices memory may be made to East Gate Lodge, Canadian Cancer Society, or Canadian Liver Foundation. Prayers will be said on Wednesday, March 13 at 7:30 p.m. at Sobering Funeral Chapel. The funeral liturgy will be held on Thursday, March 14, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Marys Roman Catholic Church with Rev. Fr. Owen Steeves presiding.
