PETER KOWAL On Sunday, March 10, 2002, at St. Boniface General Hospital, Mr. Peter Kowal of Winnipeg, aged 85 years. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughter Janet (Doug) Gray; sons, Perry (Beverley) and Darrell (Laura) all of Winnipeg; four grandchildren, Carla and Nolan Kowal, Aaron Kowal, and Paige Gray all of Winnipeg. Peter is also survived by his sister, Catherine Clarke of Winnipeg, as well as a number of nieces and nephews and other relatives. He was predeceased in 1991 by his wife Kathleen and by his sister Sophie Ilasewich in 1998. Peter was born 1916 in Sadlow, MB and spent his early years on the family homestead in Spruce. In July of 1952 he was married to Kathleen in Winnipeg, where they made their home and raised their family. Peter was a long-time employee of the Paulin-Chambers company, retiring in 1981 after 37 years of continuous service. Peter loved outdoor activities, and particularly enjoyed spending weekends and summers at the family retreat on Lake Manitoba. An avid violinist, Peter cherished the many family get-togethers where the rooms rang with the sound of music, laughter and song. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 13 at 12:30 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with Father Mark Gnutel officiating. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. The family extends thanks to the health care professionals who respected and supported Peters commitment to independent living; Dr R.J. Boyd, Deer Lodge Day Hospital, and Home Care. Heartfelt thanks to the staff of both Seven Oaks and St. Boniface General Hospitals, especially the SBGH 5B staff who tried valiantly to restore Peters failing body and spirit. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made to the charity of their choice. What is Dying? A ship sails and I stand watching till she fades on the horizon, and someone at my side says "She is gone!" Gone where? Gone from my sight, thats all; she is just as large as when I saw her...The diminished size and total loss of sight is in me, not in her. And just at that moment when someone at my side says "She is gone!", there are others who are watching her coming and their voices take up a glad shout, "There she comes!" and that is dying. -Bishop Brent Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
