Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryANNA MARIE SCHREUDER On Saturday, March 9, 2002 at the Tuxedo Villa Nursing Home, Anna Marie Schreuder passed away peacefully at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her son Gerard in 1975 and her husband of 61 years, Johannes Gijsbertus Schreuder in January 2001. Mother was born in Paramaribo, Suriname on November 14, 1907 and was the youngest of six children. Upon the familys return to Holland, she completed her nursing training and worked in the Amsterdam Jewish Hospital. Although they had met aboard ship, when mother was just 19 years old, mom and dad were married following a lengthy courtship, at Naarden, Holland in 1939. During their time together, their love for each other and their family never faltered. Ma, as she was called by everyone, was always the gentle, loving conciliatory person and Pa was tough on the outside but had a very kind heart. Both were always ready to help those that were less fortunate than they were. Family life was everything to them and when both sons left the family home in 1960 they felt a big void. It was therefore no surprise that, upon Pas retirement, they emigrated to Canada in 1974 to be re-united with their family. These last 27 years were very good to them. They made a number of extensive motoring trips, spent time in Florida and enjoyed being home and being with their family. During the past three years, failing health slowed them down, but their spirits never faltered. Even when together in the nursing home, Pa was as feisty as ever and Ma remained the same gentle, loving person. They received a lot of love and care from their daughter-in-law Corry who never failed to call or see them at least once every day for the last 27 years. Both will be sadly missed by Corry and Jack; Bill and Bertha Brant and their children, Ruth, Jessica, William and Joseph of Ile des Chenes, MB; Carolyn Brant and Netty Morren of Winnipeg; Jean Gilbert and Ria Schreuder and their children, Tom, Bas and Britte of Vught, Holland; Rachel Schreuder of Tiel, Holland and Cootje Schreuder of Geldermalsen, Holland. Special thanks to Dr. John Fox and his wife Pat and to the staff at Tuxedo Villa. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 18 at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
