A sister-in-law Janie, and a niece Suzanne, have been especially supportive to Sister during these last years of her life. Sister Dorothys religious life began in Vancouver, BC. She lived many years in our Edmonton and Winnipeg monasteries before coming to our Hamilton Infirmary in 1996. Sister Dorothy, who lived with the handicap of near blindness from infancy, totally lost her eyesight early in her religious life. It was amazing how graciously she handled this physical limitation, and was able to live a relatively normal life. Sister was very adept at reading and writing braille and prayed her Divine Office with the community by using the breviary in braille. Sister depended on others and was a very trusting person who lived without imposing but always welcoming and grateful for assistance.
